Sustainable travel specialist, Go Travel Solutions has won a major public sector contract for the third consecutive year. Gloucestershire County Council funds the Access to Opportunities travel planning programme and has selected Go Travel Solutions to support local job seekers with their travel to job interviews and workplaces.
Go Travel Solutions will co-ordinate the Access to Opportunities programme to offer training, information and support to job seekers across Gloucestershire, helping them to utilise sustainable public transport modes to access employment and interview opportunities.
The Travel Advisors - sourced by Go Travel Solutions from long-term unemployed and supported living candidates from within the Gloucestershire area - will help Gloucestershire job seekers at centres throughout the county teaching in small groups or as one to one training where appropriate. Training referral partners will also offer the scheme as an additional service to their existing job seeking skills training.
Cllr Mark Hawthorne, leader of Gloucestershire County Council, said:
“The county council is dedicated to helping as many people access employment, work placements and training opportunities, and getting around easier is part of improving this.
“For every person in the county who finds work, our economy continues to improve, which is why it is one of our top priorities to get more people in work.”
Cliff Jones, Director at Go Travel Solutions said:
“We are hugely honoured to have been selected to build on our work in this area during previous years. We look forward to making a real, tangible difference to our stakeholders through close working with some excellent referral partnerships.”
Kristine Bloor, Project Manager at Go Travel Solutions said:
“I am delighted that Go Travel Solutions have been awarded this project again. We have a fantastic team, refreshed all course materials and have improved all processes across the board. Very much looking forward to working closely with existing and new partners.”
Access to Opportunities is part of Thinktravel, a Department for Transport (DfT) funded initiative that provides information about sustainable travel options such as walking, cycling, using the bus and train, or car sharing. It is supported by Gloucestershire County Council, Gloucester City Council, Cheltenham Borough Council and Tewkesbury Borough Council.
The Access to Opportunities programme runs in parallel with the Journeys to Jobs programme, developed and delivered by Harris Ethical for Gloucestershire County Council. This programme enables the provision of a free recycled bicycle (with new safety and security equipment) or smart bus pass to those seeking employment, work placements, training or other activities designed to enable individuals to get ready for work.
